Richie started competing in 1989 supervised by his uncles Raynor, Bram and Stratty King. They were competing at the time and were introduced to racing by Lennie Rerrie (Richard’s Father) in the 1970’s.

He initially competed in Dexterities and Sprints, he says it’s the best way to learn car control and before taking on the Rallies. His first Rally was the 1991 Mazda Esso International Stages Rally in the 1989 Mazda 323 GTX (Uncle Raynor’s old car) co driven by cousin Rory King and sponsored by Executive Motors (Desmond Panton). After changing a couple co-drivers, it was “Neil” who decided that he would remain as Richie’s co-driver. They have been a Team since 1996 and are always top contenders.

For 2008, Richie has used co-driver Winston Dawson, borrowed from his cousin Rory, as Rory has sold his racecar while Neil has taken up golfing!

So far, they have won the two rallies run, the Lloyds of Montego Bay Tarmac stages rally held on March 9 in Trelawny and the Volkswagen Tarmac rally held in Manchester on April 13.

“Sir Rich” has gotten accustomed to his present ride and is getting faster with each event. He never disappoints the fans and spectators with his demonstration of spectacular driving, and is considered by many to be Jamaica’s most talented driver.
