Jagstrip Motorsport Park in Cooks Gate, Clarendon (near Vernamfield), is the place to be on Sunday, August 23 for the hottest motorsports action of the summer, when the Caribbean’s largest tyre retailer, Tyre Warehouse, partners with “Mr. Entertainment” Marcus Barnes, to stage “Summer Burnout ‘09”, an exciting motorsports exhibition featuring a drifting exhibition with the likes of the Mandeville crew, Team Pit Bull and the Nizzpro crew, a bike stunt show, radio controlled cars and burnout contest.
Mandeville drivers have traditionally led the way in sideways “shunting” action with their powerful rear wheel drive cars, with the likes of Alan Chen, Jeremy Groves, Chris Freeman and Barnes himself being the leaders in this area. Fans are sure to enjoy high speed drifting, rather than the spinning in circles that has become commonplace at recent, sub-standard shows that have tried to copy the original flavor and excitement that true drifting brings to the motorsports arena.
Gates open at 10 am and admission is Ja$1,000.00.

The Montego Bay Motoring Club will host it’s first event of the year on Sunday February 15, 2009. More details to come, stay tuned!
The Jamaica Millenium Motoring Club (JMMC) alongside Meshugata Event Promotions successfully launched the 2009 Dexterity series at the Advanced Driver Training Center in St. Catherine, Jamaica. The event brought renewed enthusiasm to the sport as rookies and veterans alike battled it out all day .
Bobby Marshall, Dean “Duct Tape” Corrodus and Dion “Baby Bomb” Gardner were participating veterans in the event, giving tips to rookies as well as drive-alongs. The three also posted incredibly fast times for all competitors to try to match.
Jordan Powell swept clean the competition, taking home the trophies for fastest FWD, as well as fastest 2 wheel drive car, fastest time of the day and fastest championship run. Jordan was hotly contested by Maurice Whittingham, Alan Chen and Joel Jackson. Rookie Matthew Isaacs also impressed the crowd placing 6th overall.
Four Wheel Drive Class (4WD) was won by the 2008 4WD champion Leroy “Ice” Spence. He had competition from newcomers Craig Stout and Christopher James. The Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Class was also won by a 2008 Champion, Garth Chin, who is set to make make this year a hat-trick in RWD championship victories. Alan Chen wowed the crowd with his car control on his path to victory in the RWD-LSD Class. Alan didn’t have any room for error as Ivan Lee was on his back with less than a second between them, both put on an excellent demonstration of dexterity. Richard Chan drove the “mad taxi” straight to the trophy table with his 7 second lead in the FWD-LSD class.
Even though Jordan took home most of the trophies Ian Wright took home all of the ratings. Ian used his Toyota Tacoma pickup truck to make the most impressive runs of the entire day. The crowd was jumping and shouting as he twisted his way around the dexterity course. See the Race Jamaica video below to view his very impressive performance.
